Dental Prosthetics Services Now Available in Alytus District

The Alytus District Municipality Primary Health Care Center (PHC), five district ambulatory clinics, and a mobile dental clinic have begun offering dental prosthetics services, which may be reimbursed for the center's patients.

Dental Prosthetics Services – In High Demand

Giedrė Ilgūnaitė, the director of the Alytus District Municipality Primary Health Care Center, confirmed that this service is highly sought after and its need was expressed by the patients themselves.

"Until now, there was no institution in Alytus District providing dental prosthetics services. We conducted a public procurement for the dental technician service, which manufactures prosthetics according to individual orders. On July 4, we signed an agreement with the Vilnius Territorial Health Insurance Fund for reimbursement of dental prosthetics services from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (PSDF), and we are already providing dental prosthetics services to our patients," said G. Ilgūnaitė.

In just over a month, this service has been provided to 32 patients of the Alytus District PHC.

Convenient, Aesthetic, Beneficial

"I was really looking forward to the opportunity to get dental prosthetics in Simnas. It's convenient because I don't have to travel to the city, especially since the procedures require more than one visit. I'm even more excited about my new teeth. Until now, I couldn't eat anything hard, but now I can even chew nuts. And I can smile! I'm very happy," said Rolandas Jarusevičius, a resident of Alytus District, who is not only satisfied with the aesthetic appearance of his new teeth but also with the complete restoration of his chewing function.

"The proper bite and good dental condition are not only important for good well-being but also for overall health. Only with fully restored teeth can one expect food to be properly chewed and efficiently transported to the stomach, ensuring nutrient absorption and preventing further health problems.

The demand for dental prosthetics in the Simnas ambulatory is certainly high. In July, when we started offering these services, 20 patients in Simnas began the prosthetics procedures. People are very satisfied with the changes in dental prosthetics services—there are no queues, and no applications need to be filled out. All that's required is simply to visit the dentist with a valid ID and a pensioner or disability certificate," said Eglė Čiginskienė, a dentist at the Simnas ambulatory of the Alytus District Municipality Primary Health Care Center.

During dental prosthetics, missing teeth are restored, and the patient’s full chewing function is regained.

Who is Eligible for the Reimbursed Service?

According to the current rules, the following individuals are eligible for reimbursed dental prosthetics services: those covered by mandatory health insurance who are of retirement age, children under 18 years old, non-working or partially working individuals, as well as patients who have undergone treatment for oral, facial, and jaw cancer.

The good news is that there are no waiting lists to receive this service—only a dentist's evaluation is required to determine if the dental prosthetics service is needed. In this case, the individual is immediately eligible for these services.

The costs of dental prosthetics services are reimbursed from the PSDF budget according to the actual costs of the prosthetics. However, if the costs exceed the set reimbursement amount, the remaining amount must be paid by the patient.
